The ‘Other’ Enemy Strikes Again

Posted on July 23, 2009. Filed under: Battlefield Mumbai |

What is an examination? It is a test of your understanding of the subject, coupled with the amount of hard work that you have put in. All universities & educational institutions around the world have formulated a way of doing so. But somehow Mumbai University has not been able to reach that stage.

Every time the results come, the students do not bother about whether they’ve done well or not. Their main concern is whether they’ve passed or no. Is the intellectual level of these students so low that they don’t expect or is it that their hard work and understanding is left to the mood of the person who corrects the papers? People who got 90% in their Std. 10 & Std. 12 and put in as much hard work in the preparations for the exams do not get any returns? How, why is it that only a few students consistently do well, the others fall below average? These results are not a reflection of anything…neither their intelligence neither their hard work. In fact even the recruiters are aware of this fact and do not rely upon these results.

Moreover, the teachers also aren’t exceptionally good. Only a handful of them have the capacity of attracting a good strength of students. So what is this educational institution striving to do? What is it achieving at the end of the day? It gives millions of students degrees that are just pieces of paper that are of value only till the time they get a job. Then they don’t care to say that they studied from Mumbai University. Comparatively, students from other renowned universities love boasting about their education.

It’s about time the university mend its ways. People have reached a stage where they do not only doubt the credibility of the university, but have also lost faith in this institution.

I’ve heard all this…I know all this…I believe all this. Then why do I still feel dejected? Why do I feel like a failure? Why do I feel like I don’t have it in me anymore? This university is out to lower people’s self esteem & instead of creating great professionals who will be brilliant in the real world, they are creating small mice, who are scared of coming into the real world because they know that they are unprepared.

dats a good one…..

hey payu, im comin over to ur place to give u a huge hug… then lets collect a few grenades n go and bomb the fort office… but then again those are heritage buildings…
:s
even tho iv got admission, i still spent the whole day today in absolutely futile crap, n then they told me i had the wrong receipt… so i gotta go bak again tomorrow…
n u havnt even begun to mention the quota evil…

I agree Payal.
I think people in our college dont really know what education is. Or they have never given it a real thought. Or they have just accepted it and moved on.
Its not something u can really replace by working somewhere.
To succeed, one should really be blessed with good parents, good friends, and good teachers.
I think we have no luck with the last essential. Teachers help u not to get carried away and give some wonderful lessons about life. … Read More
About the examination and results, its frustrating. very frustrating.

i agree with what arihant has said abt being successful…
but then talkin abt examination n results there is nuthing that can really b done..right ?? all v can do is get a lil frustrated for a while.. accept it n then move on.. So basically back to square one…

i agree with arihant too…but i don’t think we should accept it…accepting it would mean you mold yourself in that way…which i can never do…i have been lucky till 12th std and have been educated in a way that i am thankful to for my parents n teachers….but i am not going to allow this university to undo this in any way…i’m not gonna be able to change myself…cause i’ll be here for 5 yrs…then in life wat really matters is not wat i’ll become if i change myself

i agree wid payal and arihant completely…we were always taught in school that u must write basic points in your answer sheets… But wat does this university want frm us…. The University is so f*^%ing contradictory itself in the setting of the question papers leave alone the results… it asks u to write a 4 mark answer in not more than 10 … Read Moresentences and expects u to write 1 n 1/2 side of the answer sheet for that question…. Who in this god damn world can fill 1 n 1/2 side with only 10 sentences…everything relating to examinations in this so called “MUMBAI UNIVERSITY” is so vague…if it is our mistake then YES we deserve punishment…but not for sumthing we hav not done at all…why should we be the victims of the examiners frustration..This is not something we shoud easily accept…cos our career is one of the biggest decisions to made in LIFE…everyone right now wants a good degree…but the university does not understand how important it is for the student..WAKE UP PPL…if we keep acceptin den we will never be able to move FORWARD in life…it is all of no use…

hahaha…akshit i just read ur post about the short note in not more than 10 sentences…hilarious

i agree guys but then what is it the v can do ??

Well….first thing is Indian education needs an overhaul…. success depends on just one how and how fast you realise your capability

awsum pieee jst awsum….too good….v needed dis…:)
